Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom state has formally received the state Commander, Vigilante Group Of Nigeria, Group Commander Joshua Michael Dickson into the state as the substantial commander of VGN.
The Governor while receiving the Group's helmsman in his office, Government House Uyo last Thursday, acknowledged the tremendous contributions of Vigilante Group of Nigeria in stemming the tide criminal activities in the state.
He specifically assigned the Group to ensure prompt protection of solar street lights against vandalism, transformers and other electricity facilities as well as stemming the tide of ritual killings in Akwa Ibom community.
The Governor out of his love for security of lives and property approved a new office complex for the Group and urged them to see sincerity as a watch word in the course of their service in the state.
Governor Emmanuel assured that he will do his bit to ensure that the Group functions optimally in the state to bring to end every forms of illegal activities in the Akwa Ibom community.
Speaking with journalists after the meeting, the VGN Commander, Group Commander Joshua Michael Dickson expressed appreciation to the Governor, reiterating that he will do his best to maintain the Group's core mandate of complimenting efforts of the police in fighting crime.
Group Commander Dickson while promising maximum protection of the assigned electricity facilities in all nooks and crannies of the state, warned those who are in the habit of vandalising government properties to desist forthwith or be prepared to face the full weight of law.
