Each time I go through he story of David in the bible, I get so fascinated with the impressive talents he exhibited as a man. Apart from patience, of course waiting for the manifestation of the prophecies of God upon him, his strength to overcome life threatening battles singled him out as a man specifically created for leadership position.
The Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Obong Nsima Ekere is synonymous to the biblical David.
In our clime where the yardstick of good leadership is measured in one’s contributions to the society, Ekere at all times have always scaled through the court of public opinion as one of the Nigerian's finest democrat from the South-south region.
Nigerians, especially those from the south-south, who have seen him more through his good deeds and unprecedented contributions to the society, never stopped doffing their hats as a sign of appreciation at the slightest sight of this fine enigma. However, just as a two sided coin, Ekere in recent times have also faced salvo of attacks openly and secretly.
It all played out strong when he resigned his appointment as a Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State in 2012 during Akpabios administration. To say the least, in the face of pull-down syndrome and unbridled envy which have become a popular brand of politics amongst the good and bad people in south-south politics, Ekere has been labeled a lot of scary and unprintable names.
Through hired (or expired) writers, they make concocted efforts to dim his towering image in an undesirable manner, geared at robbing him of his well deserved ovations for selfless services to the people. In some quarters, it is often echoed that he is becoming a threat to some politicians groping in the backwaters of lip services.
This explains why when these crops of politicians and almost anybody from their line of trade misses a step in their political maneuverings and calculations channel their frustration to this man of innumerable personalities. Perhaps, Ekere should pay for everybody woes!
They link his name to all sorts of needless controversies which in all, the Lord has always frustrated their plans.
The past days have been awash with a questionable story which from all indications is a usual tactics to distract this man of impeccable character.
According to the contradicting story by one Michael Okon though without regards to verifiable evidence, Ekere gave order for his arrest.
The post which in parts read - “I am hereby using this opportunity to alert the public of the presence of the likes of Uyo Nathaniel, Godswill Nkamiang both of which are working with the Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission, Mr. Nsima Ekere. They have been commissioned by Mr. Ekere to commence different means of silencing all those opposing Mr. Ekeres alleged corrupt activities in the NDDC, got this writer nodding his head in disbelieve.
What is necessary to ponder over is how the said Michael Okon who claims to be an associate Pastor at Winners Chapel, Ituk Mbang could effortlessly jump into such dubious and false accusation that Ekere ordered his arrest. And one may ask, does such act depict the life of a true Christian? Is it that this associate Pastor is not aware that those who make false accusations are under Gods judgment? Perhaps, he should turn to Psalm 5:6 because even an ordinary floor member like this writer is not oblivious of such grave consequences.
This writer is certain Ekere does not even know this Okon exist, talkless of masterminding his arrest. Before coming to public to canvass for self pity on social media and whatever, Okon should have thought it wise to ask himself what evil script has he doctored against Ekere that has not been written before, which would warrant him ordering his arrest?. Obviously, he lacks the virtues of a Christian for making such detestable claims. It is below the pale and wicked and I pray the Lord be fair with him.
Though discernable minds are familiar with the tactics and the age-long wisdom that sorts to explain that when one begins to dance in the middle of the road someone is playing the drums.
It is worthy of note that this writer is not holding brief for anybody but acting to his conscience ‘before wolves devour a good man’. The public does not need a clairvoyant in this case. The accusation is a blatant lie and should be buried. With overriding reason being that Ekere which over the years have been insulted, maligned in skewed reports even at the risk of losing his good name and hard earned reputation he spent his entire life building, has never dignified anyone with a malicious respond (at least not known to this writer) nor take things personally, talkless of masterminding anybodys arrest.
It is certain Ekere as a true Christian and lover of Gods word takes refuge in Deuteronomy 32:35, knowing fully well even Jesus Christ faced false accusations. In all, Ekere should not be distracted but allowed to deliver on his core mandate as NDDC boss. For those still in doubt, the Police should do well to investigate this matter and prove this writer otherwise.
