Udom - the worst Governor in Nigeria

If you want to know how Udom is performing, there are too clear signs as you drive the roads of Akwa Ibom State.

The first - the grass in the middle of the excellent roads is overgrown and going on the road. The roads were built by Godswill Akpabio, and even the ones that are 10 years old now are still excellent - a testament to the great work. When Udom came, he was given beautiful roads - all he had to do was maintain them. And even the smallest of maintainance tasks - cutting the grasss in the middle of the road, he failed to do.

The second sign: When Akpabio left, he had constructed almost all the roads between all the major cities were built. Only one was left, the one linking Uyo and Ikot Ekpene (Akpabio left his own home town till last, showing how detribalized he was). All Udom had to do was complete that little stretch.

Instead of doing that, he has spent the last two years building a roundabout on that road. Why do we need a roundabout without a road, at a place where there is no traffic. This roundabout is descriptive of Udoms’ government - going around in circles, while failing to set even the most basic of priorities.

On paper, Udom sounds like the perfect candidate. We understand why Godswill picked him to be Governor. But CVs lie, and Udom’s CV is the pinnochio of CVs. We should have guessed this - Bankers know how to hold money and to charge you fees, they don’t know how to invest money.

Udom shouts that he is building industries - but there are none to be seen. An elite with elitist, impractical ideas - theoretical ideas that don’t work.

Akwa Ibom needs a person with management experience. A person who can actually make a state work. Udom is not that person, unfortunately.
