The Society of Nigerian Artists (SNA) has concluded plans to hold her first ever national summit on Visual Art and Entrepreneurship in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital from 25th to 27th October, 2017.
In a release jointly signed by the National President of SNA, Mr. Oliver Enwonwu and Secretary-general, Mr. Archibong Bassey, the three days summit which will hold at Ibom Tropicana Entertainment Centre Uyo, will also mark the International Artists Day in the State.
According to the release, prominent Nigerians who have contributed to the development of visual arts industry will be honoured with awards of excellence, including the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio, the Chief of Army staff, General T. Y. Buratai among other individuals in the country.
The summit is built to develop and enlighten participants on the inherent benefits of visual arts, which include vocational choice, skill acquisition and gateway to accomplishment of other sectorial and human endeavours.
The summit will also encourage people to rely on themselves as a result of entrepreneurship outlets offered by the visual arts.
Speaking with journalists in Uyo recently, the National Secretary and LOC Chairman of the Group, Mr. Archibong Bassey reiterated that the summit will bring over 3000 professional artists, craftsmen, tourism and entertainment experts, industrialists, art lovers, art connoisseurs amongst others to promote economic activities in Akwa Ibom State.
He added that the event will avail an ample opportunity for impactful expression of government's social responsibilities, especially in the areas of skill acquisition and entrepreneurship among other benefits.
Those expected to grace the event are the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Deacon Udom Emmanuel, Chairman, Senate Committee on Culture and Tourism, Senator Fatimat O. Raji -Rasaki, (Chairman of the occasion ), Senator Matthew Urhoghide will be the Special Guest of Honour, Prof Egonwa, keynote speaker, Prof Rom Kaliliu, former deyputy VC Laloke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomosho,Lead paper presenter will be Prof Best Ochigbo of the University of Uyo.
Other guests include the Director General of National Gallery of Arts Abuja, Alhaji Ibrahim Muku, the Director General, Army Museum Resource Center, Abuja, Brigadier General Oghale Olokon, Lt General T. Y. Buratai, the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Charles Udoh amongst other guests in and outside the country.
