...Drums grassroots support for Governor Udom EMMANUEL

BY VICTOR UFOT

A foremost female politician in Akwa Ibom State Barr Ime Udom has advocated for the inclusion of youths in the process of governance at all level in Nigeria.

Barr Ime Udom made the call yesterday when she played host to youth leaders and Ward Executives of the People Democratic Party (PDP), Northern Iman Ward 2 comprising of 9 villages at her residence in Etinan Local Government Area.

Barr Udom while addressing the party faithful and youth leaders noted that over the years, youths have been marginalized especially when it comes to giving out positions after elections. She said that she called for the meeting to put the youths of her area up to speed with the dynamics of politics especially at the party level. She charged the youths to always look beyond the peanuts that they have repeated been offered by politicians but rather they should always aim to improve themselves.

According to her, “I called you here today not to discuss politics but you are here for your own good and that of our community. You will agree with me that the youth at all times are the strength of the party because the old ones can no longer have such energy anymore. Most times, the efforts of these youths have not always been adequately rewarded. This is way I invited us today so that you can be useful to the community and yourselves.

Barr Ime Udom who has served Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria and the Peoples Democratic Party at various capacities advised the youths to shun violence and desist from fighting amongst themselves because of politicians but should rather channel such efforts to advocating for their inclusion in governance at all levels so that they can contribute their quota to nation building and make their lives better.
“Some of you, who were not fortunate enough to attain schools when you were younger, try and further your education through Open University or any other tertiary institution because without being educated you cannot achieve most of your dreams. When someone ask you what do you do?, don’t say I am a politician, education is very important in self development.”

She informed the gathering that women in Nigeria are now enjoying the 35 percent affirmative action while the youths were struggling to ensure that the 25 percent allocated them is implemented in the amended PDP constitution.

She admonished the youths to continue in their support for Governor Udom Emmanuel whom she noted has performed laudably since elected to serve as the governor of Akwa Ibom State. She also said that the various industries established by the governor have provided employments for youths of Akwa Ibom. She expressed optimism that with support and encouragement, the governor will fulfill all his campaign promises.

She encouraged the youths and other party faithful to ensure they have a copy of the party’s constitution so they can know their rights as members of the party at the all-times.
In their various remarks, the ward executives and youth leaders took turn to commend Barr Udom for always finding time to sit and interact with her people on a regular basis despite her busy schedule. They described the female politician and business woman as a mother with a large heart for Etinan and Akwa Ibom people.

The Publicity Secretary of PDP Etinan Local Government Area Chapter, Mr. Ukeme Thompson thanked her for the meeting which he said has helped in exposing them to issues affecting the party especially at the national level. He assured Barr Udom that the party in Etinan will always support and pray for her at all times.

Others who spoke at the event include, Hon Uduak Udoh, a former Supervisory in Etinan Local Government Area, the PDP Councillorship candidate for Northern Iman 2, Mr. Abasiawam Udofa, Mr. Godwin Etim, Barr Imo Udofia and others.
