Not fewer than 900 candidates from 12 political parties have been cleared by the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC), to contest for the positions of Chairmen and Councillors in the forthcoming local government elections in the State.
The Chairman of the Commission, Elder Aniedi Ikoiwak stated this in a press briefing held at the Press Centre, Information Drive Uyo, yesterday.
According to him, non-sensitive materials for the election has already been deployed to AKISIEC Area offices in the 31 local government areas, as the sensitive ones shall be deployed 24 hours to the elections, to ensure that the exercise kick start by 8 O'clock in the morning at all the polling units.
Elder Ikoiwak reiterated that accreditation and voting shall be done simultaneously from 8 O'clock in the morning to 2 O'clock in the afternoon using the 2015 Voters Registration produced by INEC, stressing that those who registered recently with INEC in the on-going continuous voter registration will not be eligible to vote and has no business at the polling units.
He charged eligible voters to be at the voting units on or before 2 o'clock in the afternoon with their Permanent Voters Card (PVC), noting that eligible voters shall be disqualified from voting if they appeared after the said time.
Elder Ikoiwak advised iligible voters to go to their voting units to carry out their civic duty without any fear as security operatives will be on ground to protect persons and materials.
